a fun family session in raglan - with esther and her boys
Raglan family sessions are never boring.
With so much to explore, I'll often try and aim to get the first "looking at the camera" shot first - then the rest of the time, we let the kids run and play.
This recipe worked perfectly for Esther and her three boys to naturally capture their personalities and ages.
Her oldest boy literally wanted to go swimming in his nice shirt - asking me to take photos of him lying in the water.
Her middle boy, was a little more cautious and wanted to stay up in the dunes.
And her baby, well he's still a toddler so all the sand and sticks were pretty exciting!
Of course I wanted to get a shot of the family by the water - we were in Raglan after all. One of New Zealand's most beautiful west coast beaches.
But how do you get a family photo with one boy hiding away in the dunes - adamant not to get near/in the water and while another is wanting to be waist deep in the water?
Well, you trick them into a running race of course!
Playing games and getting the kids to have fun and interact with their surrounding always helps us to get those fun and natural feeling family portraits, and this running race, done just the trick to get that winning shot I reckon.
