what to expect

We'll always just go with the flow and work with however your baby (or toddler) is on the day, but usually, this means starting the session with my beanbag.

My beanbag images will be 'naturally' posed, simple images of your little one, using neutral coloured wraps and blankets.

These are all provided but you're welcome to bring any special blankets too!

I do like to include Mum, Dad and siblings in some of these photos too, but the majority of this part will be focused on your baby.

After we've finished with the beanbag, we'll move on to capturing some images together as a family.

I always aim to document you in a relaxed way throughout this process, capturing you as a family in a way that reflects you all as you would naturally be...

snuggling, laughing, with maybe a little bit of chaos in there for good measure (hello toddlers).

You can expect a studio newborn session to last anywhere from 1.5-3 hours. Although all babies are unique and while some will settle super easily, some babies will need a lot more time to feed and settle. I'll always block out a 2 hour window in my calendar so you can relax knowing there's never any need to rush.

FAQ

When is the best time to book in?

Due to the nature of working with babies and their unpredictable arrival times, I limit the amount of bookings I take on each month to ensure flexibility in my schedule. This means you're best to book in as soon as possible to ensure you don't miss out. We'll book you in using your estimated due date and we'll finalise the date of the session once your baby has arrived. (Please note that session availability is limited to weekday mornings. Weekend mornings may be arranged upon special request however may mean that our session will need to fall outside the 14 day window).

WHEN IS the best time to do a newborn session?

The first few weeks are best - if possible. As baby is usually a little more sleepy and easier to settle meaning we can get more wrapped and close up detailed shots. However - sometimes this isn't possible. And that's okay, because EVERY stage of your babies journey is worth documenting. They will always be growing, so you will always look back and be glad you captured this time no matter what age your baby is. (You can also view some of my newborn galleries in my blog to see what a session with an older baby might look like)

how long does the session take?

I don't set a specific time frame on my sessions, as all babies and families are unique. But you can expect the session to last anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours. It all depends on how your baby is feeding that day and how settled they are. I'll always allow for the maximum amount of time in my calendar so you never have to feel rushed.

Do you use props?

I like to keep things minimal and timeless. These will be your forever photo's. So when I'm taking the photo's of just your baby, I will use a very neutral colour palette so the focus and details are of them. I'm definitely more than happy to include some special taonga/blankets in some of your images though, so just let me know if this is something you would like when filling out your questionnaire.
